Children at S. Bartholomew: The Young Disciples
Our ministry with children at S. Bartholomew is a very valuable part of our church’s life. The young people’s group is known as The Young Disciples (YD). Its main times of meeting are the first three Sundays of each month during the 11 am Parish Mass. On the first and third Sundays we meet in the Garden Room for activities and Sunday School; on the second Sunday we meet in the crypt chapel for a children’s service. In the summer months the YD make use of the church garden. There are always at least two adult leaders of the YD present, they will have been CRB checked and a register is taken of everyone present. On a Sunday morning the YD and the leaders rejoin the rest of the congregation at the Offertory and then remain in church for the rest of Mass (about 20 minutes).
The age group of The Young Disciples ranges from about 5 to 11. It is customary for the older YDs to be prepared for Confirmation and First Communion. Many of the teenagers at S. Bartholomew take an active part in the worship as servers and readers.
The Young Disciples activities are very varied and we encourage the YD themselves to share their ideas for the group. The atmosphere of the Sunday School is rather like a club and we also feel it is important to have time for teaching and pastoral work as well. You are very welcome to be in touch with us about joining The Young Disciples at S. Bartholomew.
The YD is led by a group of parents and adults within the church and co-ordinated by our lay reader, Mrs Evelyn Nero.
