The Parish Priest
The Revd Canon Charles Card-Reynolds, MA (Cantab), BD, MA (London), FRSA
Fr Charles has been the parish priest of St. Bartholomew since 2006. In 2008 he became a governor at Springfield Community School and in the same year chairman of a local charity, Children First Contact Centre. In the wider Church he director of the Fellowship of S. John the Evangelist, a charity that supports mission in the UK, South Africa, the West Indies and India. He is the Commissary of the Diocese of the Windward Islands, Province of the West Indies. For the Stepney Episcopal Area he is an Assistant Area Director of Ordinands and Examining Chaplain. In 2022 he became a canon of the Diocese of Cape Town.
Father worked for a while as a Religious Studies and English teacher before being selected aged 26 to prepare for the priesthood. He was a seminarian at S. Stephen’s House, Oxford, where he was later a governor for 12 years and now a Visiting Fellow. He was ordained by The Bishop of Ebbsfleet and served his title in the parishes of The Most Holy Trinity and S. Mark in Reading.
Father enjoys pottering about in his garden, eating cheese and has a great interest in art. He is much involved in the work, nationally and internationally, of collecting and cataloguing historic portraits of black people and has contributed to exhibitions in London, Cambridge and Barbados.
Mrs Evelyn Nero, Lay Minister
Evelyn became the Lay Minister (sometimes called a lay reader) at St. Bartholomew in 2002. She has a teaching and preaching ministry in the church and works pastorally in the parish. Evelyn was an infants’ teacher in the West Indies and after moving to Britain worked for many years as an administrator at the Greater London Council in various departments. She holds a degree in sociology and a teaching certificate for adult literacy. Evelyn is a keen gardener and enjoys reading and the theatre.
